Very often, in the beginning of a relationship, the euphoria of love is like a sugar high. The problem is, you can’t live in a hyperglycemic state indefinitely. A sugar crash is inevitable. Like a drop in glucose, disappointment makes you irritable, lethargic, hung over.
Flowers may not come every day, yet acts of love can be found in emptying the dishwasher and taking out the trash. When was the last time you showed appreciation for these daily rituals instead of complaining that the vase has been empty since Valentine’s Day? It’s easy to dig out the naughty nightie when you receive diamond earrings… Have you ever thought of marking curbside recycle pickup in a similar way?
Bouncing from sugar high to sugar high works for serial dating but is not a recipe for lasting love. Protein is a food for daily sustenance. Why not make your meatloaf and potato dinner a cupcake?
Routine considerations like taking out the garbage are the daily protein of love. So don’t forget to give your partner some sugar.
